Misunderstood.
When I first say the Colourpop Disney Villains collection my eyes lit up. As a huge Disney fan, I was immediately sold on the Disney Villains Collection. The hardest part was deciding what to get from the range but I settled on the Misunderstood eyeshadow palette and two lipsticks.

I haven’t been this excited for a launch in such a long time. This collection really feels like something new. I really wanted to get this review out a little sooner, as the collection has been out for a little while now but it’s still available and I think still well worth shouting about!
Buying Colourpop from the UK
This was my first time buying from Colourpop. I have always been put off by customs fees but I have to say it was less hassle then I imagined. Colourpop does free international shipping, if you spend over $50. They then add the customs charge to your order before you check out, so you don’t have to go and pay for it separately once your parcel arrives. A huge time saver and you don’t have to wait for that dreaded grey slip. As my order was $50 dollars, my customs charge was $10. If you have also been put off by customs/shipping I would advise trying to hit the free shipping as this did make it a better deal as an international buyer.
Can we talk about the Packaging!
The packaging for the whole collection is what really drew me in. Every detail is bold, neon and perfectly villainous! I think Colourpop did an amazing job with bringing out a collection that didn’t undersell the theme. It’s the Disney Villains we all know and love but with a modern edgy side. It strikes the perfect balance of being fun without looking naive. I personally can’t get enough of it. The kaleidoscope pattern on the Misunderstood palette especially is a real work of art. Featuring stills from the original films. It’s hitting my nostalgia in all the right ways but not resting on anything that’s been done before.
The Villains
There are 6 Disney villains within the collection; Ursula, Hades, Dr Facilier, Evil Queen, Cruella and Maleficent. Personally Hades is my favourite, so I knew I had to have at least one of the Hades specific products from the collection. Each villain has a lipstick, Ultra Glossy Lip, Jelly Much Shadow and Super Shock Highlighter. I deliberated for a long time before deciding just to stick to two lipsticks and the Misunderstood eyeshadow palette. I couldn’t get enough of the brilliant red shade that was Evil Queen, so although I would have loved to have tried them all, I’m so pleased with the two shades I picked from the lipstick range.
Colourpop Hades – Crème Lux Lipstick | $8.00
If you’re thinking of the original animated Hercules film, you may have expected a lipstick called Hades to be a navy blue. Instead Colourpop opted for a peachy neutral nude shade for everyone’s favourite ruler of the underworld.
Hades is fairer in tone then I expected upon application. It’s easily the lightest nude I own, although I don’t find it washes out my complexion, but it is a lot lighter than my natural lip colour.
Everybody’s got a weakness
As this was my first time trying Colourpop lipsticks, I wasn’t too sure what to expect formula wise. For Hades at least, I find the crème formula to be nicely opaque and comfortable on the lips. As it is more of a creamy/hydrating formula, the wear time is lessened as a result. I find if I eat or drink anything this does transfer but the wear can be improved with a lip liner or a quick touch up.
Overall, no complaints here. It’s pigmented, the packaging is gorgeous and I smile every time I see the name. Not bad for a lip product around the £6 mark.
Colourpop Evil Queen – Matte Lux Lipstick | $8.00
What else could Evil Queen be but a bold cherry red?! This shade reminded me so much of Mac’s Russian Red I had to compare. If I’m looking for a red lipstick, I always want it to be matte. Nothing strikes fear in my heart like the thought of a red lipstick creeping outside my lip line. I find matte formulas are always the way to go for a long lasting red that stays put.
Magic mirror on the wall
One swipe and the colour applies to the lips with the same intensity it appears in the bullet. I love blue undertones in reds as they make your teeth look whiter. This is definitely a universally flattering red that can completely transform a look. I always use a lip line with reds, as they are so bold I find I really like to get my lip shape perfect. I have been using Mac’s Cherry lip liner which pairs wonderfully.
Misunderstood, Eyeshadow Palette | $22.00
The Misunderstood palette was a must have for me. Eyeshadow palettes are my favourite makeup products and when I saw the shade range I was to excited to pass it up.
The palette has 15 pans, they are smaller than a standard single eyeshadow pan (i.e Mac, Makeup Geek etc) with the whole palette being about the length on my hand. The packaging is slim and compact with a magnetic closure. Each pan is about 1g of product.
Colour vs Neutral
This palette does feel very colourful when you first look at it, but it’s not impossible to create some neutral looks. The many jewel tones do really lend themselves to darker smoky eyes but I have still been enjoying this palette day-to-day to create some softer eye looks too.
If you are looking to do a neutral look, you may want to pull one or two more mattes from another palette. I have been reaching for the Urban Decay Petit Heat to fill in the gaps and help finish off my eye looks. I think if you are wanting to go for a bolder more colourful eye, there is a bit more variety and less need to pull in an outside colour.
Look Variety
I would say if this is your first eyeshadow palette, it might not have everything you want to be able to create a large variety of looks. As I have so many basic colours in my collection, I don’t mind reaching for other eyeshadows as and when needed to bolster my options. If every palette came with the same basic shades, it wouldn’t allow for a lot of variety so personally I don’t see it as a negative, I do however think this palette is either going to appeal to you or it isn’t. I personally wear mostly neutral eyes but I do love jewel tones and a pop of colour now and again. This palette really called to me as there are so many shades within in that are totally unique within my own collection. I like finding affordable palettes for shades I’m less likely to wear often so this was a win win for me.
The shades as described on the Colourpop website:
No Spots: matte pure white
Mongrels: metallic pinky ivory
Diablo: metallic lime
Devious: matte terracotta
Tragic: matte soft warm beige
Underworld: metallic bronzey copper
Pain & Panic: metallic mid-tone gold with peachy pink flecks
Forest of Thorns: metallic orchid
Flotsam: metallic baby pink with blue glitter
The Fates: matte deep blue
Revenge: matte charcoal grey with silver glitter
Sing: metallic dark brown with hot pink to gold duochrome flip
Jetsam: metallic denim blue with teal duochrome flip
Facile: metallic rich olive green with gold flecks
101: matte black
Formula
The mattes do have some kick up, as do the metallic’s which also have a slightly crumbly texture. I did experience fall out with the deeper darker shades but I wouldn’t have expected anything else of shadows so dark and richly pigmented. If you are going for a bolder look I would just advise doing your eyeshadow first to circumvent this.
The formulas overall really impressed me, I didn’t expect such instant and rich payoff from a palette at this price point. They blend easily and wear all day with an eye primer underneath. I will without a doubt be investing in more Colourpop eyeshadow palettes.
Eye Look
I had to try a deep and villainous look for this palette. It would be unfair to ignore all the rich jewel tones. For this look I used Tragic as my transition shade with The Fates in the crease. I then took Jetsam across my lid but felt it was pulling a little brown, so applied Facile to the inner potion of my eye to create a gradient and Revenge on my outer v to deepen the look. To build up the intensity of the black I used 101 lightly over Revenge. To finish the look I used Diablo as my inner corner highlight. I don’t often do looks like this, so it’s far from perfect but I had a lot of fun with it none the less.
Favourite Shades
Diablo is so stunning, It’s a really stand-out chartreuse shade. I love wearing this as an inner corner highlight, it totally transforms any look.
Tragic has been my go to crease shade, it just pairs perfectly with every shadow in the palette. Flotsam has a really unique blue shift that makes it looks almost ultra violet on my eyes. It’s more subtle then you would expect but totally stunning. Mongrels and Underworld are so my go to lid shades, they bring a beautiful shine to the lid that really makes my eyes sparkle. Lastly The Fates, wow I didn’t expect this navy blue to have so much punch but it really does. It takes a bit of building up but you can achieve a deep dark blue on the eyes that looks so chic.
Life’s full of tough choices, isn’t it?
Am I converted to Colourpop? I think we can all agree it’s a resounding yes. I’m so glad I took the plunge with the Disney Villains collection, its more then just stunning packaging, the quality and really impressed me too. I am going to America next week so hopefully will be able to find some more Colourpop products to try at Ulta. I have my eye on the Disney Designer collection as lets face it, I’ve started an obsession. If you do like the Disney theme but the Villains isn’t calling to you, I think the Designer collection is more wearable in general.
What is your must have Colourpop product?
Honestly, I have never heard of these products! Thank you for sharing these. I have some Disney obsessed friends, and I am sure they would absolutely adore them 🙂

So glad I could introduce you! This would be a fab gift for fellow Disney lovers. Thanks so much for reading xx
What a wonderful review, Sam! I think this was one of their best collections yet and knowing that Disney was on board this time around, makes these even more special. I myself bought a highlighter and Jelly Much Shadow – both equally amazing. I am happy to hear you had a great experience with both products; I actually ordered a bunch of their regular single eyeshadows recently and to my surprise they turned out to be better than a lot of high-end brands we all know and love xx

Thank you so much Naya! I was so tempted by both the Jelly Much shadows and the Highlighters, I might still grab them as they are both still available. Oh I saw that they were on sale, if I wasn’t going away so soon, I would have placed an order but I would have missed the delivery so decided to leave it. So glad they are working well, on to my wish list they go! xx
Such a great post, I love how informative it is! You picked up some great bits, that palette is so beautiful and I totally regret not picking it up with my order, and the eye look you created is beautiful!xx

I haven’t tried anything from Colourpop yet. The customs always put me off before, so I was glad when they changed it. I definitely need to try their products this year.
That peachy nude lipstick looks so beautiful. Lovely reviews and choices.

It’s why I hesitated for so long but I think if its something you really want, the customs aren’t to bad, especially if you know how much it’s going to be in advance. no surprises! Thank you so much for reading xx
