Finding My Hair Happiness

After my baby was born, I cut my hair short to make things more manageable but little did I know at 3 months post-partum, it would start falling out rapidly. I was feeling so down about the state of my hair. Philip Kingsley really become my white knight in shining armour. I’ve been using these products for over a month and the difference in the texture and appearance of my hair has been staggering. Philip Kingsley has really helped with my self-esteem, it goes beyond haircare for me. I am so excited to share more about the products I’ve been using in this post.

Philip Kingsley Haircare

Philip Kingsley – The Hair Guru

Philip Kingsley was a visionary in haircare and Trichology (The science of hair and scalp). Over his celebrated 65-year-career, he provided solutions for even the most extreme hair problems and scalp issues. The brand started with his passion but has really evolved to be a brand for everyone, every hair concern and hair type accounted for.

There is so much expertise behind the Philip Kingsley brand. I knew I would be in safe hands!

Post-Partum Hair Loss

When Philip Kingsley asked if I’d want to sample any products and whether I had any hair issues, I said yes. When I mentioned post-partum hair loss, I was astounded to receive not only a comprehensive regimen that fit me, but also a plethora of useful information on the subject. I really felt like they understood what I was going through and how to help. Needless to say, I was very excited to start using my routine.

Insights from Trichologist, Annabel Kingsley on postpartum hair loss:

Approximately 50% of women experience partum hair fall. Post-partum hair fall usually occurs 6-12 weeks after giving birth or stopping to breast-feed. Unfortunately, it cannot be prevented and must be left to run its course. Try not to worry, the loss is only temporary and all hairs lost should grow back as usual.

Post pregnancy, you can undergo both mental and physical stress. You may find it hard to eat a balanced diet, or be able to sleep as much as you should – and these can impact the hair adversely. As your system re-balances, your hair is going to be last on your body’s list of priorities to nourish and it often needs some extra internal support. Try to eat nutrient rich meals that contain plenty of protein and iron. Taking a daily protein supplement and a multi-vitamin containing iron, Vitamin C, Biotin, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D can also be of great help in boosting growth.

Breakage can also thin the appearance of the hair. To strengthen and add elasticity to strands, use a pre-shampoo conditioning treatment once a week. This can be applied to your hair at the same time your scalp mask is applied to your scalp.

I hope that this knowledge is as useful to others as it was to me. Let’s get started with my haircare regimen…

Philip Kingsley elasticizer hair mask

Elasticizer Deep-Conditioning Treatment | £35.00

The Elasticizer is the most talked about Philip Kingsley product I know, and after trying it for myself I can see why. This deep conditioning treatment is the first step in my routine (Once every 1-2 weeks). I wet my hair then apply from root to tip and use a comb to make sure my hair is fully covered. Then after 20 minutes it can be rinsed off. Caster and oliver oil help to rehydrate, while hydrolyzed elastin ensures your hair breaks less. This is different to a leave-in conditioner style mask, which can weigh hair down. As a pre-shampoo treatment it does its magic while it’s sitting on your hair and then any residue is washed away.

Fun fact: Philip Kingsley created the world’s first pre-shampoo conditioner, Elasticizer, personally for Audrey Hepburn

I was blown away by how much of a change this made to my hair, which was especially noticeable once it was dried. The more I have used it, the more I have seen the positive effects as well. My hair is considerably smoother and sleeker and the ends of my hair feel less dry and brittle. I can see why it’s called the Elasticizer as it feels so bouncy. It’s less frizzy and dries straighter as well. It takes a little more work than simply jumping in the shower and shampooing my hair, so I save it for weekends, but I believe it is well worth the effort. I absolutely love this! I understand the hype.

Philip Kingsley Body Building Weightless Shampoo

Body Building Weightless Shampoo | £20.50

I tend to wash my hair every 2-3 days. If I’m not using the Elasticizer as my first step, then I go straight in with the Philip Kingsley Body Building Weightless Shampoo. The body building range focuses on volume, bounce and shine. It’s a truly weightless formula that lathers and rinses easily too. Formulated with keratin to boost limp hair, this was just the restorative shampoo that I needed. Designed for men and women, this is a shampoo with mass appeal.

I fell in love with this shampoo right away, and it has continued to provide benefits with each wash. My hair is no longer as flat and lifeless as it once was. It’s more controllable and style-friendly. Some shampoos are thick and difficult to wash out, however that is not the case with the body building shampoo. Without the use of heavy ingredients, my hair feels clean and soft.

Philip Kingsley Body Building Weightless Conditioner

Body Building Weightless Conditioner | £20.50

The perfect partner to the Body Building Shampoo is the Weightless Conditioner. The Weightless Conditioner has all the fabulous features of the shampoo but with the added benefits of wheat protein to help strengthen, volumize and plump hair. Behentrimonium chloride helps to smooth cuticles, add gloss and detangle. Whilst silicone helps to add shine and reduce static. It gets to work instantly, so you don’t need to leave it to soak on your hair. I just use it on the mid lengths and ends of my hair and rinse straight away.

I always thought my hair needed heavy rich formulas to feel soft and be hydrated but the Body Building range has really shown me how wrong I was. This conditioner has really improved the texture of my hair, it feels smoother and looks shiny. Without weighting it down or coating it. When I run my fingers through my hair it feels healthy, where as before it felt lifeless. This is a product I will 100% be repurchasing when I run out. I have found the best and there is no going back!

Philip Kingsley Maximizer Root Boosting Spray

Maximizer Root Boosting Spray | £19.50

I spritz the Maximizer Root Boosting Spray at the roots of my hair while it’s still wet (but not dripping) and massage it in. This is a heat-activated spray, so it gets to work as I blow dry my hair. It doesn’t leave any residue or product behind in my hair. Just like the Body Building Shampoo and Conditioner this is completely weightless. The Maximizer adds volume, controls flyway’s and frizz and gives texture to fine hair. It also protects hair from colour fade and UV damage.

If you were to ask me ‘How do I get salon hair at home?’ this is what I would recommend to really step up your haircare routine. I have always struggled with volume and frizz and always though copious amounts of hairspray was the only answer. How wrong I was! This does more then any hairspray I have tried, without the sticky crunchy feeling. My roots are visibly lifted and my frizz and flyway’s tamed. My hair looks like I’ve just had a blow-dry at a salon. It’s so quick and easy to use and I love that it doesn’t make my hair feel greasy or heavy. This is a product I think everyone could benefit from!

Philip Kingsley Flaky\Itchy Anti-Dandruff Scalp Toner

Flaky/Itchy Scalp Toner | £22.50

The Flaky/Itchy Scalp Toner is a product I didn’t even know I needed until I tried it. I wouldn’t say I had server dandruff but my sensitive scalp did experience dryness and an itchy feeling. Usually the day after I would wash my hair. This helps to make my scalp feel calm and irritation free. Thus helping improve my hair health and hopefully restoring its strength, lost through post-partum shedding. It contains key ingredients; Piroctone olamine to fight fungus and bacteria; camphor to cool and soothe and benzalkonium chloride to provide instant and long-lasting relief from itching. All together they work to restore your scalp’s microflora balance.

It’s really easy to use, I twist off the cap and apply this liquid directly to my scalp in a few sections. Massaging it into my roots as I go, to make sure it is evenly distributed. I do this before blow drying when my hair is damp. It’s soothing and gets to work instantly, to treat both the discomfort and cause of dandruff and dry scalp. I use this about twice a week but you can use it as often as you need too. I love this toner, it has really helped to get my scalp into tip top shape.

Philip Kingsley 5-in-1 Hair Smoothing Treatment

Elasti-Styler 5-in-1 Hair Smoothing Treatment | £35.00

The Elasti-Styler works like a leave in conditioner. I only use 1-2 pumps to run it through damp hair from the mid-lengths to the ends. The 5-in-1 benefits are: reduces frizz, conditions, smooths and strengthens, adds shine and is a leave in conditioner. The Elasti-Styler is a new product from Philip Kinsley that is an extension to the original Elasticizer. It’s a great addition too, as it allows me to continue with the benefits of the Elasticizer range after washing. Packed with key ingredients such as: phytolastin for suppleness, babassu oil to nourish, olive oil for shine and vitamin E to condition.

I use this every time I wash my hair, as it really helps with the manageability and frizz during drying. A little goes a long way and it’s such an easy to use product too. It smells lovely and as with all Philip Kingsley products I have tried, doesn’t leave any residue or heavy product in my hair. I really love how easy this is to add into my blow drying routine and how much impact it makes. My hair feels soft and nourished and it is easier to manage as well.

Philip Kingsley Finishing Touch Polishing Serum

Finishing Touch Polishing Serum | £22.50

Last but by no means least, we have the Finishing Touch Polishing Serum. Between washes the finishing touch serum is your friend. A little pea sized amount of this is all you need to fix flyaway and unruly hair. It controls frizz, increases shine, protects and nourishes and gives your hair that silky feeling. I like to warm it in between my hands before applying to the mid-lengths and ends of my hair.

This is a great product to have on-the-go with you or add it to your morning routine to just touch up your hair. It’s light gel texture isn’t sticky or gloopy and doesn’t add any weight to my hair either. I love how this gives me some control in between washes. I always find in the morning my hair is more frizzy, so this is a great addition to keep it looking smooth.

Philip Kingsley = Happy Shiny Hair

Philip Kingsley has really helped me feel good again and even with a baby it’s a haircare routine I can manage. These are products I get excited to use. I started seeing results so quickly and I was just amazed at how they transformed my struggling hair. It’s easy after having a baby to put yourself at the bottom of the priority list but spending a few extra minutes on myself has done a world of good for my self confidence. Philip Kingsley is a brand that I have always wanted to try and these products really came to me at the perfect time! I am so grateful for the help and support I received in finding a routine that was perfect for me. I honestly can’t see my self using anything else now. My hair feels so soft, strong and sleek. My frizz has improved dramatically and I am in love with how healthy my hair feels. Thank you Philip Kingsley!

I’ve heard nothing but incredible things about Philip Kingsley products, the number of people who call them life-changing blows me away every time so I can’t say I’m shocked to hear how much you love them but I’m very happy you’ve seen improvements so quickly. I know post-partum hair loss is a major concern for a lot of people so I’m sure people will appreciate this. I’ve always been tempted to try their toner for dry/itchy scalps as I’ve always struggled with scalp irritation. And I’m sat here the day after I washed my hair wanting to claw my scalp so it could be time to try it x
