The exciting new Phase Zero release: part 1
It’s time for an exciting new launch, by up and coming beauty brand Phase Zero. The Coconut Liquid Eyeshadows, are like nothing I have every tired before and I can’t wait to share my swatches and thoughts with you.
*These products have been sent to me for testing and review purposes. All opinions are my own.
Last month I shared with you the 12 stunning Phase Zero shimmer eyeshadow pans that had just released.
Well not long after they very kindly sent me a big bundle of liquid eyeshadows. I have decided to split this review into two parts, so I can share the two very different formulas with you. Today I wanted to focus on the Coconut Liquid eyeshadows which comes in four fabulous shades. Stay tuned for part 2, the metal veil eyeshadows coming soon.
Who are Phase Zero?
Phase Zero are a very wallet friendly and cruelty free brand. Being available only online allows them to keep their prices low. Although they are a relatively new brand, new and exciting products have been launching every month. The line currently includes; lip products, powder, cream and liquid eyeshadows in abundance. Phase Zero has also teased bronzers and blushes too. They focus heavily on customer feedback to create fun and exciting products that you want.
The Coconut Liquid Eyeshadows are £4.75 each or £14.99 for the bundle of all four shades.
Coconut Liquid Eyeshadows
Now on to the stars of the show, the Coconut Liquid eyeshadows. There are currently four shades:
- Lucky Penny – Warm Bronze
- Gilded – Warm Orange Gold
- Romance – Cool Pink champagne
- Valentines – Neutral Rusty Rose
When I first saw these I was quite mesmerised. I have used a lot of cream eyeshadows, but never something that truly is a liquid. Despite being called coconut eyeshadows, they don’t have a coconut scent. Personally I prefer non-scented makeup, as it can cause irritation so that fine with me. The formula is super thin, so I didn’t know if they would pack a punch. When I swatched these for the first time I was blown away. You do have to shake them up quite a bit, to ensure the pigment is well mixed with the liquid. The result is a thin, fast drying, highly metallic finish that once dry, doesn’t budge. I made sure to put them by my vanity that evening and I have been using them daily ever since.
Packaging
I like the packaging of these, it’s what you would expect for liquid colour product. The thick plastic feels high quality and it’s always nice when you can see the shades through the tube. These have a standard sized doe foot applicator, which I find takes some getting used to, to be precise on the eye.
I feel the applicator makes these are a bit of an intermediate product. As they dry so quickly, you really need to apply the product straight to your eyelid. This can make them tricky to blend (because they dry so quickly) and be precise with. I wish the doe foot was just a little smaller so it was easier to get a crisp shape, but through practice I have managed to get it working for me.
Formula
The Coconut Liquid eyeshadows are a very thin liquid that dry’s down almost immediately and sets in place. Which means you don’t have a lot of time to work with these and have to move fairly quickly when applying. I find once they are set, they don’t budge so you don’t have to worry about transfer or wait for it dry.
As the formula is so thin, they don’t seem affected by products below or on top. They make for great bases and I find it very easy to blend powder shadows on top without unsettling anything. I also find you can apply these over powders and even creams and it doesn’t disrupt the products or cause any creasing, it’s like a magic coat of metallic that can be applied any way you like.
I have sensitive skin and I do find these tingle slightly while they are drying. The sensation doesn’t last but I thought it was worth mentioning in case you have sensitive skin too.
Pigmentation
Three out of four shades have absolutely blow me away, with their intense pigmentation and saturated metallic finish. I don’t know how they do it with such a thin formula! Lucky Penny, Gilded and Romance do not disappoint. They go on even and the colour looks exactly like it does in the tube.
Valenetine’s is the weakest shade for me, the pigmentation is more patchy compared to the intensity of the other three shades. I struggle to build it up and get it to look even on my lids. I feel like the colour wants to separate which I don’t experience with the other shades.
Shade Range
The shade range is only small with there being four shades, but I really hope they plan on expanding the line as I think these are such unique and high performing products. I find these to all be shades I would gravitate towards, just beautiful wearable metallic’s.
Shades from Left to Right: Lucky Penny, Gilded, Valentines & Romance
How I like to use them
As old habits die hard, I just like to do my standard eye priming routine with these, and they don’t seem to be effected by product underneath. I use Urban Decay’s Primer Potion then I set it with a translucent powder. You can also use powder shadows in conjunction with these, without any trouble. Mainly I use them as lids shades, so once I’m ready to apply, I give them a good shake (as the pigment does separate) and apply straight to my lid. As mentioned earlier it was a bit of a learning curve, but take your time and use all sides of the doe foot to achieve a smooth result. Of course they can also be used on their own as a one-and-done look, which makes for a really easy and beautiful metallic eye.
Wear Time
These last for a good amount of time on my lids, around 6-7 hours before they start to fade. This can vary a little depending on the base used and if you have a powder shadow on top. I find them to last as long as a multitude of other eye products in my collection. Although the wear time is not as exceptional as the Phase Zero powder shadows, its certainly long enough to get you through most of the day.
Overall I’m a big fan of the Coconut Liquid eyeshadows. I really hope Phase Zero bring out more shades in this formula, because it is really something special and unique. I’m going to keep playing around with Valentines and see if I can find a way to work with it. As I have done with the other three shades. Don’t forget to shake these up for every use, even between eyes and these beautiful wearable shades will give you that gorgeous foil effect. These have a bit of a learning curve attached, to get a precise shape. They dry very quickly and work over any base. The sky’s the limit in terms of your creativity.
