First Impression on lip products by Winky Lux

Last week I was very kindly sent three products by Winky Lux. I had heard of the brand, but never tired anything before. At the beginning of June, Winky Lux launched in Boots. After falling head over heels with the packaging, I wanted to share with you my first impression on three lip products by Winky Lux.

I instantly feel in love with the packaging, I mean look at it! The attention to detail and stunning illustrate boxes took my breath away. I have seen Winky Lux on ASOS and Feelunique before, but until it launched in Boots I had never seen their products in person. Once I saw it on the shelves I was instantly drawn to their products. They have a really fresh and unique brand feel and I’m generally excited by their products. I was over the moon when they sent me three lip products to try. Here are my first impressions and thoughts on three lip products by Winky Lux.

About Winky Lux

Winky Lux originated from NYC, and has been available in the UK for about two years now. It has previously been available predominantly online and sold on ASOS and Feelunique. Now they are available in store, and online at Boots. I’m so pleased to see the brand has been taken on by such a major retailer, and being able to see the products in-store is fantastic.

Their products are playful and fun but still offer a luxury experience.

They are a completely Cruelty free brand and their products are free from; parabens, sulfates, gluten, and phthalates.

What else is in the line?

I think the first time I really heard about Winky Lux, was when they released the Flower Balms. The Flower balms have clear lipstick bullet with a suspended chrysanthemum blossom nestled inside. The Flower Balms reacted to your skins PH level to create your perfect pink. Two of the lip products in this first impression have the same PH effect.

Winky Lux is a medium priced brand, with a majority of their products being around the £13-£17 mark and their eyeshadow palettes around £30. They prominently offer lip products but do have few other items available too. Their collection is much more extensive on their US website, so I can only imagine more products will be launching in the UK if the brand does well. From what I can see, they also make eyeshadow palettes, highlighters and have recently released a tinted veil. I find their products to be exciting and unique, and I really hope the line grows to include more of their products.

Winky Lux Lip Velour in Heart | £13

The Winky Lux Lip Velour in Heart is a Classic Marilyn Monroe red. Flattering on everyone and instantly transforms a look. This is such a richly pigmented lipstick that just glides on and feels almost undetectable on the lips. It’s a matte formula but has a creamy texture that is extremely comfortable on the lips and not drying at all. Don’t be put off by the fact I call this creamy, it’s not a slippery matte and doesn’t bleed out of the lip line. The bullet is quite a precise shape. However, I would still recommend using a lip liner with this, as it’s such a deep shade and can be tricky to get perfect. I don’t find this formula emphasis the lines in my lips, and it doesn’t cling to dry skin which mattes often do. This lipstick stains my lips but it isn’t transfer proof.

This might just be the nicest red lipstick I’ve ever tired. It ticks all the boxes.

I love the silver and gold pill style packaging, its nice quality and really pretty. The Lip Velour’s have a divine coconut scent too. This is a vibrant beautiful red lipsticks and I did not expect to love it as much as I do. Everyone needs a red like this!

Winky Lux Disco Kitten Gloss in Hustle | £13

The Winky Lux Disco Kitten Gloss in Hustle is packed with gold and green sparkle. I find the shimmer to be much more obvious in the tube and it definitely less noticeable on the lips. You can feel the glitter when you rub your lips together, but the gloss has a nice gel texture that cushions the lips and isn’t to sticky. This is one of the Winky Lux lip products that changes colour based on your PH level. It turns quite a cool toned medium pink on my lips, giving me that I just ate a popsicle stain. The pink stain lasts longer then the gloss but this is such an easy product to reapply as it is on the sheer side.

I like the feel of this gloss on my lips, its comfortable and makes my lips look juicy and plump. The Disco Kitten Gloss also has a divine coconut scent. It’s a fun product makes for a pretty summer pick.

Winky Lux Glimmer balm | £13

The Winky Lux Glimmer Balm comes in two shades, Holographic and Gold. They are both clear, it’s just the glitter that is different. I have the shade Holographic which contains blue and violet sparkle and find the glitter to be very subtle on the lips. Just like the gloss, I can feel the glitter when I rub my lips together but it doesn’t feel rough, or gritty on the lips. This has a lovely balmy texture and feels hydrating on the lips.

This is also a PH reacting product, so it turns a custom pink once applied. I do find it more subtle then the Disco Kitten gloss. It’s a cool tone medium pink on my lips. I love sheer lip products and this gives a really natural look to the lips. I adore the pink and silver bullet packaging and the coconut scent. This isn’t as shimmery as you would expect and would make for a perfect everyday lip product.

PH Reacting Lip Products

I always find that products that react to my PH level often turn to quite a Barbie shade of pink on me. As a nude lipstick lover, I wasn’t sure how these would look on my complexion. I find the Glimmer Balm to be a more wearable shade of pink for me, then the Disco Kitten Gloss. However, I rarely wear a sparkly gloss on its own and would likely use it over the top of another product. So the colour changing effect would be less noticeable anyhow. Looking online the PH reacting products really do look different on everyone, so it’s definitely a product worth trying for yourself if you haven’t experienced this time of formula before.

Final thoughts

I think both the PH reacting products are enjoyable to use and comfortable on the lips. If I had to pick between them I would say go for the Glimmer Balm, its more hydrating and lasts a little longer on the lips. I’m more of a traditional lipstick girl so I may be biased! I’m really impressed with the quality of these products overall, but the Lip Velour takes the cake as my top pick. It’s such a comfortable, smooth and richly pigmented matte. The formula is fantastic and I adore a true red. The Winky Lux packaging is really gorgeous and I’m just in love with detailed illustrative boxes. I can’t wait to see more from the brand.
