Four Nars Bestsellers

Nars Makeup Bestselling products

Are they worth the hype?

Nars, a brand that needs no introduction. Known for provocative names and killer formulas this iconic beauty brand is loved by many. There is so many Nars bestsellers I have yet to try. With my list ever growing, I felt it was time to start somewhere and look at the bestselling products by Nars that I do own, and importantly if this brand deserves your attention.

Nars Makeup Bestselling products

Founded in 1994, Nars took the beauty world by storm. I can’t remember a time where I wasn’t lusting over a Nars product. The combination of soft-matte black packaging and the sleek minimalist typographic logo, makes my graphic designer heart sing. I have owned a few Nars products in the past but currently my collection is quite small. I did notice my collection featured four Nars bestsellers, so I thought. ‘This sounds like a blog post in the making’. So let’s dive in…

Nars Laguna Bronzer

Nars Laguna Bronzer | £31

I don’t think there is a beauty lover out there who doesn’t know the name Nars Laguna Bronzer (Link to Feelunique). It’s one of those products that is a holy grail for many, my self-included. I have hit major pan on my current Laguna, so I brought a backup as soon as I had the chance.

Laguna is a warm medium toned bronzer, with the finest golden shimmer running throughout. Seriously you would need to look with a magnifying glass to see the sheen. This little bit of shimmer is what really gives that sun kissed natural looking bronze. I can’t get enough of it. As it is a warmer tone, I can see it potentially looking orange or too warm, on pale and fair skin with cool undertones. Unfortunately, I don’t think Nars has a lighter shade of this but there is a deeper shade called Casino (Link to Feelunique).

What do I love about this bronzer? well everything! It blends seamlessly, never looks patchy and just looks like a healthy bronze glow on my skin. It has a reputation for a reason and it’s been a favourite of mine for a long time.

Nars Orgasm Blush

Nars Orgasm Blush | £25

It’s criminal how long it took me to try Nars Orgasm (Link to Sephora). A blush that just like Laguna has one hell of a reputation. Even non-beauty enthusiasts know its name. Blushes want to be it and other makeup wants to be with it. Why did it take me so long to pull the trigger then? Well it just looked too shocking pink in the pan for my taste, so I always ignored it. Eventually I had one of those moments when I thought ‘Okay let’s see what this is all the fuss is about’. Maybe I can finally tick it off my Beauty Bucket List (blog post). Well upon swatching I could see the appeal. Enough to make it mine.

From Left to Right: Laguna, Orgasm, Vanilla

Orgasm (Link to Cult Beauty) is a fairly sheer blush, so that shocking pink that I was a little afraid of, is much softer and more of a gentle, fresh, pinched-pink shade on the cheeks. It does of course have a heavy amount of gold shimmer, but this doesn’t look like a glitter bomb like I feared. It’s a very illuminating blush shade but it blends easily and build well. I was very surprised by how much I loved this and kicked myself for delaying trying it for so long. If you are looking for the ‘I’ve just been out in the cold and look how cute and rosy my cheeks are’ look… then say hello to Orgasm. I will say it’s totally won me over.

Nars Climax Mascara

Nars Climax Mascara | £22

The Nars Climax Mascara (Link to Ulta) certainly got my attention with its unique almost ‘Lego’ style of packaging. In classic Nars fashion it also has a name of a sexual nature, I must admit I was more drawn to the packaging but with a name like Climax I had to see if it could live up to its name.

For a mascara with such a provocative name I was hoping for more. It’s not bad, it’s just pretty middle of the road for me. The length and volume Climax (Link to Space NK) it gives is great, and with some building it’s easy to achieve a separated lash look. I tend to scrub the brush back and forth to achieve a more ‘clumpy’ look as that is my preference.

I do find the hourglass brush to be on the cusp of too big, but it’s easy to coat my top and bottom lashes with. The reason I’m not infatuated with this mascara is that is smudges on me. At the end of the day I notice some smudging where my lashes touch my face. It’s minor so I have continued to use it and enjoy it, but I would be unlikely to buy it again, because of this. I do have watery eyes and a lot of mascaras smudge on me, Too Faced Better Than Sex (Link to Ulta) is one that sticks out in my mind. Another name that doesn’t live up to the hype for me! I have read some really positive reviews about this mascara so I think it’s worth trying and see how you get on. If you are prone to smudging like me, this may not be the one for you.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer | £24

I adore the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, (Link to Ulta) it glides on and blends like a dream. I brought the shade vanilla on recommendation from the sales person, but in hindsight I think custard would have been a better match. As it is a lighter shade I tend to mix this with other concealers to get a better match. All that being said I really have nothing bad to say about this concealer. It’s not drying, has great coverage and a little goes a long way. I use the doe-foot applicator to dot a few spots under my eyes and blend with a brush. You might not expect a concealer with the word ‘radiant’ in the title to have such great coverage but it really does, my dark circles are drastically reduced and once I set it, it doesn’t budge either. If I could put this concealer into a hall of fame, in it would go.

I am curious to see how the Nars Soft Matt Complete concealer compares so this is definitely one on my to-try list. The Radiant Creamy Concealer (Link to John Lewis) comes in 30 shades whereas the Soft Matte Complete (Link to Ulta) only has 16 but hopefully there is a match for me.

What else is on my Nars Wishlist?

Matte Lip Pencil

In the past I have owned a shade from the matte lip pencil (Link to Selfridges) range and I loved the formula and shade. I didn’t repurchase it when it expired which I totally regret. I would pick a different shade next time around, but the formula was amazing and something I need to re-buy.

Afterglow Lip Balm

I can’t get enough of a sheer balmy lip. The Afterglow lip balms have gorgeous packaging which of course draws me in but the product itself looks like something I would get a lot of wear out of too. The colours appear to match many of Nars’ blush shades. Do I need an Orgasm Afterglow Lip Balm? (Link to Lookfantasic) I’m thinking yes.

Sheer Glow Foundation or All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

Nars is know for its foundations and I haven’t tried either. This is not through lack of trying, I have just been unable to find my shade online. I did go to a counter and found a match for the Sheer Glow Foundation (Link to Selfridges) but forgot the name when I got home! Why didn’t I buy it then and there, we will never know. I have also heard amazing things about the All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation (Link to John Lewis). I just need to figure out my shade and hopefully I can make them mine.

Skin Deep Eyeshadow Palette

I haven’t tried Nars eyeshadows which is just shocking really. The Skin Deep Eyeshadow Palette (Link to Bloomingdales) is one I know I would love, rich warm neutral tones. Yes please.

Final Thoughts on my Nars bestsellers

Well I am so glad I finally dedicated a post to this Iconic brand. 3 out of 4 knock my socks off, and I have a healthy list of more products I am dying to try. The quality, look and feel and range in general – Nars doesn’t disappoint. Laguna is a bronzer I can see always being in my collection, same as the Radiant Creamy Concealer. Orgasm is beautiful and I can’t believe I hesitated on it for so long. Climax well, you look good at least!

I don’t have that much Nars in my collection right now either! It was interesting to hear your thoughts on the Cimaz mascara as I’ve seen some really mixed reviews on that one. Laguna is too warm and deep for my very fair skin, unfortunately, I really wanted to try it but knew it was a non-starter as soon as I swatched it. You’re right about it not being available in a lighter shade as well, they sometimes do a lighter one in their palettes but not as core collection. I really like the Nars lip pencils and have a couple in my collection. I love the Nars shade range but find both the creamy concealer and sheer glow to be too matte and drying on my skin in the cooler months, Sheer Glow works for me in summer but I can’t find a way to make the concealer work. Great round up if the brand! x

Climax was a bit disappointing but mascaras really behave differently on everyone! I hope they do make their bronzer in more shades as part of the core range as the formula is the best. I’m surprised I always thought sheer glow was a luminous finish! You are making me have second thoughts about trying it! Thanks for reading Sophie xx

I don’t own many Nars products, but my favourite from them is definitely the soft matte complete concealer, which I use on blemishes. I did recently try a sample of the radiant creamy concealer, but it didn’t give me enough coverage, it creased a bit as well.

    • violethollow March 8, 2020 at 7:53 pm

I want to try the soft matte still but I need to find my shade. I don’t find the radiant creamy concealer to crease on me at all but it could be the other products I use first paving the way xx

Can’t get enough of that matte black packaging and sleek writing. I haven’t tried them! Shocking I know, I have heard mixed things about Sheer Glow but great things about their Natural Radiant Longwear foundation, so that’s the one I would go for! xx

I’ve been using NARS religiously since well over a decade now. I love all their products. I use all those best sellers with exception to their mascara because I get lash extensions. I’ve been really conflicted lately because they’ve began testing on animals so they can sell into the Chinese market and this really, really is making me move away from them. I’ve been using them so long, for good reason. Their products are amazing, especially on my sensitive skin. I’ve never had issues with them. Especially foundation. I use the sheer glow and also their tinted moisturiser. The latter is a great starting point into their foundation world as it can be built up in coverage too.

I am such a fan of the brand and their quality. I completely agree the fact they are no longer cruelty free so they can sell their products in china is upsetting. It’s a step backwards and something more brands seem to be doing instead of the other way around. It’s something I am being more mindful of with future purchases too. I appreciate your insights! xx

  • monika March 17, 2020 at 8:30 pm

I also have Sheer Glow on my wishlist, but I always decide to buy something else 🙁 So far I’ve tried their mascara and I have one cheek palette that I love:**Regards
