Phase Zero Eyeshadow Palette

The exciting new LoveMeBeauty Release

It feels like only yesterday I was sharing with you the first Phase Zero Launch, their exciting collection of 9 lip products. After blowing me away with their high quality products, and playful shades, they have done it again. At the beginning of March, they released 23 shimmer shadows, 12 of which I’m going to share with you.

Phase Zero and LoveMeBeauty very kindly sent me their new magnetic palette, along with 12 of the shades from their new eyeshadow collection. The shadows are a mix of shimmers and sheer satin finishes, ranging from light highlight shades to a rich black. I absolutely love building my own eyeshadow palettes, not only is it a fun and creative process to select the shades, but also its something you can add too and build upon. Creating your perfect palette.

Who are Phase Zero?

I mentioned a little bit about Phase Zero when I reviewed their Lip products, click here to catch up if you missed it.

Phase Zero is an exciting collaboration with Lovemebeauty. They are a very wallet friendly and cruelty free brand. Being available only online allows them to keep their prices low. Although they are a relatively new brand, new and exciting products have been launching every month. The line currently includes; lip products, powder, cream and liquid eyeshadows in abundance. Phase Zero has also teased bronzers and blushes too. They focus heavily on customer feedback to create fun and exciting products that you want.

The individual eyeshadow pans for £2.90 each. The Phase Zero magnetic palette is only £4.80. I was amazed by how affordable the lip products are when I reviewed them last month. Again, I’m blown away by the high quality products that are available for such wallet friendly prices. Phase Zero also have numerous bundles available if you are interested in a few shades, that could save you even more.

Build your own palette

Along with the 23 eyeshadow, Phase Zero have also released a cardboard magnetic palette to store them in. The palette is cardboard but it feels high quality and durable. The inside has a magnetic sheet that can snugly fit 12 eyeshadow pans. It has a good size quality mirror which is always a bonus. I love the prism shift that this palette has, depending how the light hit it. It feels robust and would be really easy to travel with, the slim packaging protects your shadow and you don’t have to worry about them falling out.

Finishes

The finishes of these shadows are not what I would expect at all. Snowball although labelled as a shimmer is more of a frost finish to me, as is Warm Taupe although it is labelled as a sheer satin. Cashmere is the sheerest of the bunch. Velvet also labelled as a sheer satin, is extremely rich in pigment. The finishes don’t seem to have an effect on the level of pigmentation, or the amount of fall out/kick up produced by the powders. Each shadow is quite individual and in my opinion, they all fall under the shimmer/metallic umbrella.

Pigmentation

The pigmentation overall is good, there is some shades that perform better then other. Overall, I find the pigmentation to be decent and although not completely saturated it doesn’t let me down. All of these shades can be amped up with a bit of Fix + sprayed onto my brush, which is a habit I have when using any metallic shadow.

The shadow that appear most sheer on the eye is, Cashmere. I love the shade of this shadow it reminds me of Sable from Mac, but it applies more like a wash of colour then a saturated eyeshadow.

Party Dress surprised me, it’s a much richer black then I was anticipating but not so tricky to work with as other black shadows I’ve used.

Velvet, Mush-a-Boom & Cocoa have really rich, instant shine pay-off that you want from a metallic. They are my favourites from the palette for sure. Bright Light, Nude Newbie and Banana Beige are close to follow, making for stunning pigmented highlight shades

Consistency

The consistency of the shadows doesn’t always match the finish. Snowball and Warm Taupe have the most kick up but are different finishes. For the most part these shadows don’t have much kick-up. I haven’t had any problems with fall-out either. Although, I wouldn’t describe them as buttery, they are soft and apply evenly and easily on the eye.

They are very easy to blend and quick to work with, which is great for quick out the door makeup. The colours stay put all day and apply seamlessly to the eye. I have no complaints with how the perform.

None of the shades are patchy or chalky, but some feel slightly grittier then others. This can only really be noticed with swatching and doesn’t affect the performance.

Shade range

The shade range is mostly cool toned and neutral. I find that quite a few of the shades appear lighter in tone on the eye then they do in the pan. Nude Newbie and Banana Beige both appear as bright highlight shades on the lid despite looking darker in the pan.

Velvet is the perfect plum shade that I was immediately drawn to. It looks magical with Banana Beige and Warm Taupe and instantly makes a look feel ready for autumn.

Mush-a-Boom reminded me of Mac’s Satin Taupe when I first saw it, but on the eye it’s a more of a pewter colour that looks incredible with dark espresso brown shades as soft, flattering option for a smoky eye.

Although there are some shades that appear quite similar on the eye (Pearl & Nude Newbie). Overall, I think the collection has some really beautiful metallic’s. In a range of depths and tones, to entice nude lovers and metallic lovers alike.

How I like to use them

As there aren’t currently any mattes in the line, I have been using matte eyeshadows from other palettes to create my looks. Starting with a neutral matte shadow as my transition shade and crease shade. Then i have been using the Phase Zero shadows for my lid, outer v (although sometimes I still opt for a matte) and inner corner highlight.  I have enjoyed seeing what I can come-up with. Paring these shadows with other palettes to finish my looks.

Cocoa looks really beautiful one its own, as one-and-done bronze look, but it also pairs so well with Nude Newbie on the lid and cocoa on the outer v.

I’ve been using Bright Light as my inner eye highlight for almost every look, it a neutral very pale champagne that compliments almost every shade in the palette.

If I’m after something gold and smoky, I have been using Banana Beige on the lid with either Warm Taupe or Coffee Cup on the outer v. To ramping up the smokiness I like to mix in a bit of Party Dress over top.

Wear Time

The wear time of these shadows really impressed me. They last about 7-8 hours on my lids (with an eyeshadow primer) before wearing away. In fact by the time I get home from work you can still see them on my lids, which is so rare for any brand especially shadows as affordable as these. I wasn’t expecting them to be so long wearing but I’m of course thrilled they are!

Dupes

I was convinced I would be able to find some dupes within my collection. Actually what I found were these are rather unique shades, good job Phase Zero! I found no shortage of metallic eyeshadows within my collection, but the undertone was often different. Resulting in some close calls.

  • Too Faced Chocolate Bar, Hazelnut was quite similar to Phase Zeros Cocoa. Cocoa has a slightly rosy undertone.
  • Urban Decay Naked 1 palette, had a couple of close calls. Sin was similar to Phase Zeros Nude Newbie. However Nude Newbie is a slightly less peach in tone. Smog from UD and Warm Taupe are so close as well, but Smog has more of a bronze undertone. Creep from UD and Party Dress from Phase Zero are very close, as is Night Night from the Pixi ItsJudytime palette. I would say the only difference between the three is the level of shimmer and intensity of the black.
  • Nylon from Mac and Snowball from Phase Zero, Nylon is less yellow then Snowball and has a finer shimmer.
  • Urban Decay Naked 3, Factory and Phase Zeros Coffee Cup are similar but Factory is rosier.

Pearl from Phase Zero was tricky, I kept thinking I would be able to dupe it looks like a fairly common pale rose shimmer, but nothing was close enough to mention. Banana Beige and Velvet also didn’t come close to anything I had.

Other shades available

As there are 13 other shades available, I want to give them a mention. There appears to be some really striking copper and bronze shadows that have really caught my eye. I have also seen a lilac shimmer and a really yellow gold if you were after some more colour.

What else is being released by Phase Zero?

Phase Zero has just dropped their Metal View Liquid eyeshadows. They have launched 11 metallic shadows, that look gorgeous and as have become a huge fan of liquid eyeshadows of late. I think it’s a perfect time for these to drop. Also in may they are releasing creamy eyeshadow foils.  Although there are quite a few eye products releasing, I’m excited for them all. Can’t wait to see Phase Zero add to their current range, as the formulas are top notch.

Phase Zero Eyeshadow Palette

For £2.90 each (with a subscription) these are an absolutely steal. They are half the price of a Makeupgeek single eyeshadow pan and a 1/3 of the price of a mac single eyeshadow. To be able to get a completely customised 12 pan palette, for under £35 is a really amazing deal. Far more affordable than any other of the b.y.o.p style palettes I have.

Their wear-time absolutely blew me away. These last on my hooded lids without creasing or wearing away. The pigmentation is good and can be built up even more with a wet eyeshadow brush. I really enjoy the shade range, but hope they add some mattes in the future. These shadows are totally worth checking out.

The tones in this palette are SOOOOOOO pretty! I love being able to pick and choose individual shades to create a palette with exactly what I want. I haven’t heard of this line and love discovering new products! The Velvet ruby shade and Cashmere are my favorites.
