Cream eyeshadows from LoveMeBeauty

The Phase Zero Metal Foil eyeshadow pots come in fifteen shades, of which I have eight to show. After putting the latest launch from LoveMeBeauty to the test for over a month, I’m ready to share my full thoughts.

The Metal Foil Cream Eyeshadows, were released a little over a month ago. This is the fourth eyeshadow formula from Phase Zero that I have tried. I feel like I have really been able to pin-point the strengths and weaknesses in their line and compare their formulas overall. They have certainly been focusing on eyes, with the last four launches all being eyeshadow products. I think they have created a really exciting selection of formula’s and shades, to pick and choose from. Although the releases have all been metallic’s and shimmers, I think they make for fun and exciting editions to my makeup looks. My only wish is that the line expands to incorporates some mattes for full versatility.

If you are interested in hearing more of my thoughts on Phase Zero, I have reviewed the Metal Veil Cream Eyeshadows, Coconut Liquid Eyeshadows and Individual Powder Eyeshadows in previous blog posts.

Although they are a relatively new brand, new and exciting products have been launching every month. The line currently includes; lip products, powder, cream and liquid eyeshadows in abundance. Phase Zero has also teased bronzers and blushes too. They focus heavily on customer feedback to create fun and exciting products that you want.

Bundles

I purchased the Pretty Much Bundle myself. The shades within the Pretty Much Bundle are; Goth Girl, Gold Roses, Bruise & Princess. When it arrived, I had received the shade It’s Me which I can’t find on the website, so I think it must be an alternative name for Bruise which was missing. The Sunset Strip* Bundle was sent to me to review. It contains the shades; Cigar, Smudge, Army and Queen. I felt like with it being such a big launch, I wanted to get a really good idea of how these preform. Which is why this review is part gifted part purchased. All of these shades can be purchased separately and there are other bundles available in quads and duos.

*Cigar, Smudge, Army & Queen have been sent to me for testing and review purposes. All opinions are my own.

Formula & Pigmentation

The Metal Foil Cream Eyeshadows have a whipped, almost bouncy cream texture. The mid-toned and darker shades are really easy to blend. I find the two lighter shades (Queen & Princess) to be slightly chunkier in texture, not the glitter but the actual texture of the cream shadow. They still blend out but it takes a bit more work. To blend these I have been using either my finger or a stiff paddle style synthetic brush. They can be messy, so more often then not, I reach for a brush. I find the Spectrum A16 to be perfect for applying these precisely to my lid.

The pigmentation is consistent across all eight shades, they have an instant colour pay-off that translates well onto the eye and can be built up. Phase Zero always impresses me with their pigmentation, I think in this instance what lets these down for me, is how quickly they crease on my eyes. This isn’t a problem I have had with any of their other eye products, so I attribute it to the cream formula.

Preventing Creasing

Due to my hooded eyes, I find that setting these with an eyeshadow is the only way to prevent them from creasing. I sweep a very light layer over the top to set the eyeshadow. I find the Metal Foil Cream Eyeshadows to be more intense and so the colour and shine still comes through, but this drastically increases the wear time for me. If you don’t have hooded eyes you probably won’t need to do this step but it still may increase the overall wear time.

Below is a list of similar popular eyeshadows, that I find work over top these cream shadows without altering the colour:

  • Princess – Naked Lunch by Mac
  • Queen – Half Baked from Urban Decay Naked 1
  • Gold Roses – Trick from Urban Decay Naked 3
  • It’s Me / Bruise – Hazelnut from Toofaced Chocolate Bar
  • Cigar – Sunset from Tarte Tartlette Toasted
  • Army – Gilded Ganache from Toofaced Chocolate Bar
  • Smudge – Woodwinked by Mac
  • Goth Girl – Black Forest Truffle from Toofaced Chocolate Bar

Shade range

I really favour the mid-tone shades the most from the selection I have. Cigar, smudge, Army and It’s Me/Bruise, are my favourites shades and the ones I will likely continue to reach for again and again. I think the shades selection is great. It’s a fantastic range of; cool, warm and neutral shades. They are all wearable and at such a reasonable price point, it’s even worth trying the more fun colours too.

Final thoughts

The texture, pigmentation and shade range all really impress me about these cream eyeshadows. Although the creasing was an issue for me at first, setting with a powder shadow fixed this for me entirely and has allowed me to get a full day of wear out of these. They make for great eyeshadow bases or alone, as a one-and-done look. If I had to pick a favourite shade it would be Cigar, its such a stunning bronze that just has something extra special about it. For £4.75 each  I think these are really wallet friendly and well worth a try.

These eyeshadows look so lovely. From the texture to the color. I always wish brands like these would expand to Ulta or Beauty Brands so I could try them in person.
