The Wants Palette
When Youtube sweetheart Emily Noel brought out a collaboration with Makeup Revolution, it was in my shopping basket, before I had even finished watching the announcement video. Emily created two palettes with Makeup Revolution, The Needs and The Wants. I just couldn’t resist trying one for myself.
After immediately adding this to my shopping basket, I couldn’t contain myself with excitement when it arrived. I haven’t felt this way about a palette in a while. This was my first time trying Makeup Revolution eyeshadows and I knew Emily wouldn’t let me down. Upon opening the palette I could hear the angels sing, I just knew it would be good and something that was worth dedicating a review to here on my blog.
Makeup Revolution
This is my first experience trying Makeup Revolution eyeshadows, I have a few of their highlighters and a contouring palette but haven’t tired much else from them. They have quite a large range which is available in store at Superdrug and online at a few retailers. I haven’t really explored many of their products but after using the The Wants palette I’m certainly keen too. I didn’t expect such high quality, from such a wallet friendly brand. Although they are known for creating very affordable dupes, based on high-end products, I’m personally more interested in their unique offerings. I will admit I had dismissed them a bit, as a brand that wasn’t for me but I can say this palette has certainly inspired me to take another look.
Emily Noel
I have been a subscriber of Emily’s for years. I have watched her since she was a newscaster and shared her excitement, when she announced her pregnancy with Belle and later Violet. When I saw the names of these shades, I instantly recognised their meaning. Every year she does a series of videos called the Emily Awards, which is where I get so many of my product recommendations. I really trust her opinion and although I have been tempted by many collaborations in the past, this is the first that I knew I just had to get. Watching Emily’s announcement video for the palette’s, I was so humbled by how much work and love she had put into these palettes. Yes, it’s just makeup but I really appreciate the work she has put in to bring her subscribers something special.

The Needs and The Wants
Although I didn’t pick up The Needs palette, I still think it’s gorgeous. As it was mostly neutral, I felt like I had similar products in my collection but part of me is still kicking myself for not picking up both. I think the concept of the two palettes is brilliant, and allows you to build-on what you already have in your collection. Weather you go for the bright and fun; The Wants palette or the neutral heaven; The Needs, which enables you to get those basic must-have shades that any beauty lover would agree is a need.
The Needs palette has 4 larger face pans, that can double as eyeshadows and six dedicated eyeshadows. At £10 it’s an absolute steal. The shades have been curated from Emily’s favourite makeup revolution products. A Holy Grail palette, showcasing the best of the best… and I didn’t buy it. I could kick myself for passing on this one!
The Wants palette, is a dedicated eyeshadow palette containing 24 ultra-impressive shadows. At £15 it’s still an absolute bargain and contains a wonderful mix of colourful and neutral eyeshadows.
Packaging
I love the packaging of The Wants palette. The gorgeous pastel peach and gold foil is such a classic combination. I’m so impressed with the huge mirror this palette has, it’s totally unexpected and bigger than any other mirror within my palette collection. It’s not the most thick and ridged plastic but the quality is certainly good for the price and keeps the shadows nice and secure.
The Load Down
The pans are the same size as a Mac or Makeupgeek eyeshadow and each pan contains 0.85g of product. There are 13 mattes and 11 shimmer shades. Such a perfect balance of finishes. Every shimmer seems to have a complimentary matte shade, which makes pairing so easy. Although there isn’t much product in each pan, I still think this is a fantastic bargain, as each shadow works out to be around £0.60 each. Best of all this palette is cruelty free.
I have been using this daily for 2 weeks and have yet to scratch the surface on all the possible look combinations. The Wants is such a though-out palette, that has had every shades I need. The colour selection is just perfect.
Shade Range
I feel like Emily really created an amazing balance of neutrals, greens, purples and burgundy’s, that are all shades I love to wear. This palette has even made me want to experiment with new colours and colour combinations.
Shout-out To The Purples
The purples within The Wants palette especially, have ignited a love for purple I never knew I had. I love mixing Eve Rose with Pizzazz and Belle Violet with Family. They are such wearable purples, that really bring out the warmth in my brown eyes.
Highlights
For all of my look, I have been using Oh Heavens! as an inner corner highlighter and The Cream for my brow bone. These are the exact types of shades I look for for highlighters. They have paired so well with every look so far. Oh Heavens! is a beautiful soft pearly shade, that doesn’t steal focus but just gives that bit of glow I’m looking for.
Crease
Hobby, Prayer, Midwest and Dues Paid have been my go to crease shades. Hobby pairs perfectly with the greens in the palette and Prayer looks amazing with the gold’s and purples. Of course there are no rules with how you use these and that versatility really shows as the more I use this palette. I have been mixing and matching the shades with warm and cool looks without feeling like I’m missing any specific shade.
Brush Swatches from top to bottom left to right: The Cream (off white), Hobby (tan), Prayer (rosy brown), Grateful (mint green), Good Vibes (cranberry), Side Hustle (dark olive), Midwest (warm brown), Dues Paid (terracotta brown), Eve Rose (pale lilac), Belle Violet (violet), Capricorn (rich brown), Pi Phi (plum), Oh Heavens! (pearly champagne), Lovetons (berry), Pizzazz (frosty purple), Family (mauve), Top Story (yellow gold), Apartment (chocolate brown), cupcake (rosy pink), Laughcry (coral), Cheer (burgundy), Heartbeat (mulberry), Corduroy (forest green) Dark & Early (rich black).
Autumn Inspired
As we are transitioning into Autumn, I couldn’t think of a more perfect palette. The green’s, burgundy’s, plums and gold’s in this palette all pair perfectly together for a warm Autumn inspired look. Top Story is such a stunning gold, that just seems to pair so well with multiple colours in this palette. Side Hustle, Heartbeat and Cheer, all scream Autumn to me and have been a few of my go-to shades.
Pigmentation & Texture
The metallic shades do have a bit of kick up but I haven’t experience any fall-out under my eyes. I find the mattes to also be a bit more on the powdery side but they both blend really easily (With exception of Laughcry which is more patchy). I have used the shimmers both wet and dry in my looks with a lot of success. Spraying a bit of Mac Fix + onto my eyeshadow brush really intensifies the shine and is a trick I often do with most metallic shadows.
The pigmentation is mixed. Dark and Early, is a really impressive pigmented black, a shade that can be hard to get right. Although these aren’t the most intensive shadows I’ve ever tired, I don’t think you would be disappointed. The weakest shade for me is Laughcry, Its really hard to build up. Most of these shadows apply to the eye beautifully and can be built-up for more colour if needed.
Wear Time
The wear time of these shadows is amazing. I always use an eye primer whenever I wear eyeshadows and these have lasted all day on my lids without any difficult. It’s not often I come home from work to see nothing has faded or creased. I can hand-on-heart say, these have incredible wear time, that rivals some of my most expensive shadows.
Final Thoughts
I have been absolutely loving using The Wants palette for the last two weeks. Although, this is slightly earlier then I would normally post a review, I wanted to make sure you had a chance to grab it before it sells out. If you are a fan of Emily or looking for a palette that is going to inspire you without breaking the bank, then this is the palette for you! I don’t know how they have made such an affordable high quality palette, it’s making me question everything.
Have you tired Makeup Revolution?
Such a lovely, very autumnal palette! Your photos are so beautiful, and the swatches especially look really neat. I like it because the colours are quite different, but also versatile. I can see that you could create some pretty interesting looks with it, but also casual ones. And the formula sounds fab, too! Thanks for sharing, lovely. <3 xoxo

Thank you so much Kay! I think initially it can feel like an intimidating palette but as soon as you take a closer look you can really see the versatility and how it allows you to create such a range of looks from neutral to something with a bit of colour. I’m really impressed with the formula and think the price point is unbeatable xx
Wow, there’s a good amount of shadows; there’s enough to do your “stand out” looks and your natural looks! The colors do look adorable and I love reading the names of eye shadows or nail polishes, they have such cute/creative names! Thanks for sharing your thoughts Sam 🙂
