Topshop Makeup Collection Relaunch

The fully revamped makeup line

Topshop completely re-launched their makeup line at the tail end of last year. I was a fan of the original collection but the new launch is bigger and better. I love how they have refreshed their packaging, and the reworked formulas don’t disappoint. This is certainly a range to get excited about.

*These products have been sent to me for testing and review purposes. All opinions are my own.

Topshop Makeup Collection Relaunch

The launch is by no means small. There is everything and more, for a full face, lips, eyeshadows, setting sprays, even tools and nails. I tried to pick a range of products, to really get a sense for the new and improved products but I feel I have barely scratched the surface of all that is on offer.

The Load Down

I remember so clearly Topshops original launch. The white graphic packaging was cute and trendy. At the time, I tried a few blushes and lipsticks but admittedly, not much else. I liked the products but they didn’t stand out to me. Reinventing the line was a stroke of genius. The new collection is sleek, sophisticated and has totally blown me away. Prices range from £5- £16, so although not technically drugstore, the price point is very reasonable. You might not expect such high quality, from a typically clothing brand but I urge you to give Topshop makeup a look in. Best of all, they are also certified cruelty free.

Topshop Makeup Collection Relaunch

Base

Longwear Illuminating Primer in Out all Night | £14

It’s no secret, I love an illuminating primer. The Topshop Longwear illuminating primer reminds me so much of the Becca Backlight priming filter which is my all time favourite. This has a pearl reflect, compared to the more golden Becca primer, but still suits my warm undertones. The soft sheen, gives me such a ‘lit from within’ glow. Its quite a thick texture but melts easily into the skin, giving a beautiful luminous finish, ready for foundation. It won’t make you look like a disco ball, nor does it feel sticky or heavy on the skin. I do find it has a silicone texture, that slightly blurs the pores.

I love this primer and have been reaching for it often. A real winning formula and so worth the price tag. Honestly, I would think it costs twice the price, if I was none the wiser.

Longwear Liquid Foundation in Nougat | £16

I just knew I had to try the Longwear Liquid Foundation. I have to pat myself on the back, for picking out the perfect shade for myself online (hoping my medal is in the post). There weren’t many clues about the formula online, so I didn’t fully know what to expect when it arrived.

I would describe this a medium coverage, with a satin finish. As I have dry skin, I’m always a bit weary of anything, that describes its self as longwearing, as that often goes hand-in-hand with matte formulas. I am pleased to report, this works fabulously with my dry skin and doesn’t cling to any dry patches or make my skin look dehydrated.

It’s a very pore filling formula, my skin looks almost doll-like, when I wear this. I find it wears for about 7-8 hours on my skin, before I really notice fading. I have worn this many times, with and without sunscreen underneath and haven’t noticed any difference in performance or wear-time.

Nougat is a perfect match for me and I’m so happy with the formula too. This has been such a great every day base, I love it.

Longwear Liquid Concealer in Banana | £12

Since I was trying the Topshop foundation, I thought, why not see how the Concealer fairs too? Okay, so I didn’t succeed with the colour choice, for this concealer but I can make it work. I do tend to use lighter concealers under the eyes, or down the centre of my face to highlight with. There is also the option of mixing this with a darker shade, so it won’t go to waste. Banana shades are great for brightening under the eye and I can confirm it does make me look more awake.

I love how slim the packaging is and I’m always a fan of a doe foot application on concealers. This blends out really easily and has light to medium coverage. The finish is quite dewy, so a good option for under the eyes.

Topshop Foundation, Primer and Concealer

Tools

Silicone Sponge Blender | £5

I have seen a few versions of the silicone blending sponge and always wanted to give them a try. I like that they don’t soak up any product, so there is no waste. Plus from a lazy persons perspective (aka me), you don’t need to wet it to use it, like you do with a traditional sponge. It’s also much more hygienic and easier to clean, so a lot of bonus points already. I think it takes a little longer to work my foundation into my skin, then it does with a brush or sponge but the bottom line is that it works and I think for a fiver it’s well worth a try!

Topshop Makeup Collection Relaunch Swatches

Heavy Swatches from left to right: Illuminating Primer in Out all Night,  Foundation in Nougat, Concealer in Banana, Liquid Highlighter in Blaze, Blush in Game Changer, Metallic Eyeshadow In Sand Dune, Matte Lip Crayon in Duvet Day, Eye Crayon in Dark Horse.

Face

Glow Liquid Highlighter in Blaze | £15

The Glow Liquid Highlighter in Blaze was a product I just knew, I had to try. It looks like angel tears in a bottle and although I haven’t tried too many liquid varieties, it does not disappoint. I have found this works amazingly, over or under powder. The appearance and texture, is completely unaffected either way, which is rare with a liquid product. I like to put a drop on the back of my hand and dab it into my skin, with my ring finger. It gives the perfect apricot, rose gold glow, which is so flattering on my skin. There are a few shades of the liquid highlighter, if you feel Blaze isn’t right for you.

I’m hooked, it gives much more intensity, then a lot of powder highlighters but at the same time, it’s hard to overdo it. If you are going to try one thing, it has to be the Glow liquid Highlighter.

Matte Powder Blush in Game Changer | £10

Game Changer is such a flattering muted rosy blush. I tend to gravitate more towards matte blushes, although there are a few shimmer shades within the collection as well. This is such a sophisticated and versatile shade, it gives a beautiful natural flush to the cheeks. I think the shade would be flattering on a lot of skin tones too.

The pigmentation is what I consider to be perfect for a blush. It’s build-able but softer on first application, allowing you to decide how intense you want to go. There isn’t any kick-up, when I dip my brush into the pan but it still is easy to pick up product.

The compact is sleek and perfect for stacking, if you have a few shades. It even has a mirror, which is such a nice touch. I’m very happy with this blush, it’s another product from the line that performs like it’s twice the price. As the name suggests, it’s a Game Changer.

Topshop Blush, Lip Crayon and Liquid Highlighter

Eyes

Metallic Eyeshadow In Sand Dune | £9

I live for gold shimmers and the Topshop Metallic Eyeshadow in Sand Dune is just breath-taking. The gold-champagne tone, brings so much light to my eyes. It’s really captivating. I’m so impressed. The pigmentation is fantastic and the texture is buttery and smooth. There is no fall-out or kick-up, which means you don’t have to worry about this dusting everywhere. I use fix + with all metallic eyeshadows, regardless of brand, as it makes everything look more intense. If you are after a softer look, it still won’t disappoint. I’m not usually one for single eyeshadows but this is one that’s worth reaching for. It lasts all day on my lids, over an eye primer and is just one of those shades, everyone needs in their arsenal.

There are so many shades and formulas in the Topshop collection; chameleon, satin, matte, metallic and glitter. So not only are you spoilt for choice, there is a formula out there for you. I definitely want to explore more of the shades, as Sand Dune has started a new passion, for single shadows.

Topshop Makeup Collection Relaunch

Longwear Eye Crayon in Dark Horse | £7.50

Who can resist a chubby bronze eyeshadow crayon? Dark Horse called out to me, or perhaps neighed? Okay, bad jokes aside. I was hoping I could use this more as an, all over the lid, one-and-done type of product but I feel this is not the best use of the formula. When blended all over the lid, it becomes a bit wishy-washy and you lose that stunning chocolate-bronze. Don’t be fooled, this eye crayon is very creamy and richly pigmented, so I feel although it doesn’t excel as a cream eyeshadow… As a liner, it’s perfect. Blended along the top or bottom lash line, this gives my eyes a smoky, grungy look that is quick and easy but ultra-effective. Oh and I should mention, once this sets. It doesn’t budge!

Waterproof Intense Mascara in Stage Dive | £12

How can you try a selection of a brands products and not check out their mascaras? The Waterproof Intense Mascara is a perfect rich black, that I find easy to build up. The straight natural bristle wand, is the perfect size where you can easily coat ever lash and don’t have to worry about taking a eye out, with a miniature spiky sword. As it’s a straight brush, I find it really easy to evenly coat my bottom lashes as well.

I’m not usually one to go for a waterproof formula but I found this just as easy to remove, as a normal mascara, so no down side there. Although I haven’t jumped in a pool, to really put this to the test. I haven’t experienced any smudging or flaking throughout the day. The volume is good but I do wish the formula was a tad more lengthening. A good option is you suffer from watery eyes and I’m pleased to report this doesn’t give me any irritation either. All-in-all pretty good!

Lips

Ultra-Matte Lip Crayon in Duvet Day | £10

Last but not least, I like to finish off my makeup with lips. You can almost beat it will be some kind of pinky nude, enter the Ultra Matte Lip Crayon in Duvet Day. I love slim lip crayons like this, as they are so easy to be precise with and you can often skip a lip liner. This is a long wearing matte formula but doesn’t hold up to well to lunch. Still, it’s easy to reapply and as long as I have a light layer of lip balm underneath, I don’t find this to drying. I’m a huge fan of the shade, it’s a very me kind of colour. If you like matte lipsticks, this won’t disappoint. I do have my eye on their cream lipstick formula too, which also come in every shade you could imagine.

Topshop Makeup Collection Relaunch

Final Thoughts

I think its safe to say, I’m not just impressed with Topshop makeup, I’m blown away. Topshop have really out done themselves. Out of everything I have tried, there is nothing I dislike. It’s hard to pick favourites but I think the Glow liquid highlighter and the Longwear foundation are a slight cut above the rest and really amazing in terms of formula, performance and value. I could use every positive adjective under the sun to describe my love for the packaging, it’s so sleek and a really fantastic new direction for their beauty brand. I’m so excited for this launch and I know you will be too!

How nice is this new makeup line? I used to have a few of their old lipsticks (those that had stripes all over them) and they were amazing back then, so I can only imagine how much better all of the new formulas must be. Great picks here, Sam xx
