Revolution Skincare Face Masks

A full breakdown of the range

This breakdown is a bit overdue. Revolution Skincare currently has seven face masks in their range and three limited edition masks (which I haven’t included in this post). These are my first impressions from the range and what you can expect if you try them for yourself.

Who is Revolution Skincare Best For?

I have been testing and reviewing Revolution Skincare on my blog for a while now and tried pretty much every product in their line.

Before I go into the breakdown of each of the Revolution masks (Link to Ulta) and what they do, I wanted to mention, who I believe is the target market for this line and who will benefit the most from it.

This is a distinction I don’t often make in my blog reviews, as often I think brands cast the net quite wide. Revolution skincare in my opinion, is best for teens and those in their early 20’s. Or those who don’t have a fully developed skincare routine yet and those with un-fussy skin. I feel this way for a few reasons:

From Basic to Routine

Firstly, they put an emphasis on skincare education which I think is great. It’s a real step up from makeup wipes and a moisturiser and excites a new generation. I think if you are going from a basic routine, to more steps/targeted skincare you’re going to see results and be happy with the change these products are making.

If however, you have been doing a dedicated routine for a long time and maybe have more specific skincare concerns, I don’t feel like these products pack enough punch to really turn the tides. Honestly, I think in this situation it’s worth saving for a product that is really going to have some more impact.

Affordable and Accessible

Secondly, I also address the price point because Revolution Skincare is very affordable and accessible (can buy online and in-store at multiple retailers across the U.K) to many and that is something I really commend about the brand. It’s unfair to really compare their products to Omorovicza for instant which is 6 times the price and harder to get a hold of. I have overwhelmingly positive things to say about Omorovicza because they are what I would categorise as ‘game changing’ but they aren’t something everyone can get a hold of, or necessarily wants to splurge on.

Easy, fuss free and a skincare philosophy

Lastly, I wanted to mention fussy skin. Which as I have sensitive skin, I would say this allows me to test all of their products but not necessarily use them long term. I think these would work great if you have skin that isn’t sensitive or prone to eczema, pyrosis, etc. They aren’t what I would categorise as gentle but for normal, or oily skin none of Revolution Skincare’s products aren’t harsh either. I think in a nut shell, they are good products if you can tick the points above.

Hyaluronic Acid Overnight Hydrating Mask | £8.00

Overnight masks are a must have if you want a quick hydration fix with minimal effort. Apply like a moisturiser and wake up with bouncy skin. I had high hopes for the Hyaluronic Acid mask.

Overnight masks can feel sticky and I do find this one falls into that category. I did use this on a rather hot night, so I’m sure that didn’t help. It’s not so noticeable that I can’t look past it but is worth mentioning. By morning however it was all soaked in.

It’s hard not to compare this to the Laneige Sleeping mask which I’m such a huge fan of. I find this doesn’t give quite the same bounce to my skin, or feel as light on my skin. However, It’s a less expensive version and easy to get a hold of in the UK. If you don’t mind a bit of a sticky feeling, and you want something quick and easy that will help hydrate. I don’t think this would steer you wrong. It certainly does the job and is a great introduction to overnight masks and the benefits they can have.

Honey & Oatmeal Nourishing & Glow Face Mask | £8.00

The Honey & Oatmeal Nourishing mask is my favourite out of the bunch. It has an almost peachy honey scent, which is on the stronger side but smells so nice I didn’t mind. This has a creamy texture, that doesn’t dry or change once applied. Formulated with sweet almond oil, hyaluronic acid and vitamin E, this mask contains all the right things for a gentle nourishing mask.

I found this mask to be comfortable and non-irritating for my dry/sensitive skin. I left it on for around 10 minutes, before using a damp cloth to remove it. My skin did look brighter and felt soft after taking this off. I can’t vouch for the nourishing effects to much at this stage, but this is one I can see myself using again.

Green Tea & Walnut Exfoliating Face Mask | £8.00

The Green Tea & Walnut mask wins for best scent. It’s minty with a green tea undertone and is totally fresh and invigorating.

If you have sensitive skin, beware with this one. I unfortunately had to remove this right away, as my face was stinging severely upon application. The menthol ingredient, just really wasn’t gelling with my sensitive skin.

Apply this very gently, as it does contain Walnut which can be harsh on the skin. As I wasn’t scrubbing this into my skin, I wasn’t too concerned with causing damage to my skincare surface. But a light gentle hand is a must, to not over exfoliate.

I think this mask was definitely not made for those with sensitive skin in mind but could be good for oily and normal skin types once in a while. It’s not a mask I would recommend using often, as it is intense. I do enjoy giving this a sniff though, as wow it smells delightful.

Warming Gel Moisturising Mask | £8.00

The Warming Gel mask looks like a swimming pool you just want to dive into. I was most definitely drawn into the gel appearance. The scent reminds me of laundry, it’s very clean and fresh.

The does what it says on the tin, it does feel warm as you apply it. A pretty pleasant sensation and definitely not a burning one (which I did experience with a few of the others!).

This is quite a sticky think gel, so make sure you have your hair tied back if you have long hair like I do, as my hair seemed to magnetise to this mask. I didn’t have any trouble with removing it after about 10 minutes.

The Warming Gel mask contains glycerine, to help boost hydration and the warming sensation is supposed to open pores to help them better absorb the ingredients. It’s a difficult one to say yes this is working. My skin didn’t feel hugely different after, but I feel like this is more of a long-term hydrating mask rather than a quick fix. I enjoyed this one and would give it another go, as I do like the warming sensation.

Pink Clay Detoxifying Mask | £8.00

I have tried a few pink clay masks, so I was excited to see how the pink clay detoxifying mask would compare. Pink clay is not only Instagram perfect, it’s a powerful ingredient for promoting radiance, improving skin elasticity and minimising blackheads.

I found the Revolution mask to be quite a thick consistency, which mean’t my skin felt really tight once it dried. I do kind of enjoy the feeling of having on a clay mask and the sweet sensation of removing it as well. As it was so thick however, this did take me a while to wash off and I was scrubbing at my skin more than I would have liked to.

I experienced some initial sensitivity, when this was still wet but that passed as it dried. It wasn’t so server that I felt I needed to remove it right away, as I did with the Green Tea and Walnut. However, I would be careful if you also have sensitive skin, as this has quite a strong floral scent which I feel may be a contributor.

I do enjoy a clay mask once in a while, although I had some difficulties with this mask, it did leave my pores looking clear and wasn’t to drying either.

Aloe Vera & Waterlily Soothing Face Mask | £8.00

The Aloe Vera & Waterlily mask was unfortunately also a tad stingy for me, so not soothing as described. This isn’t really the masks fault, as I have had reactions to Aloe Vera in the past, even though it is often marketed for sensitive skin.

This isn’t sticky like the Warming Gel mask but still has a thick gel texture that doesn’t move around once applied. I do appreciate that these are on the thicker side, as it means I don’t have to worry about drips.

In terms of results, I do find this very similar to the Warming Gel mask. If the warming sensation of the Warming Gel mask doesn’t appeal, this would be a good alternative. My skin looked refreshed and I did enjoy the cooling sensation once the initial aggravation subsided.

Charcoal Purifying Mask | £8.00

I got on much better with the Charcoal Mask then the Pink Clay Mask. It’s a thinner constancy but still dry’s and hardens on the skin. It didn’t sting my skin, which I’m starting to give extra points for that alone. I left it on till it fully dried, which was about 12 minutes before removing. My pores looked noticeably tighter and my skin didn’t feel to dry either.

This contains Glycolic and Latic acid which are amazing ingredients, to rejuvenate and resurface the skin. I always enjoy a charcoal mask and I have no complaints about this one. It did the trick and it’s great for congested skin. Once a week is all you need.

Double Ended Masking Brush | £6.00

I applied all the face masks with this handy double ended brush, such a fab tool for getting an even mask application and not ending up with sticky fingers. I love the silicone end as it doesn’t soak up any product and is great for thicker, harder-to-work-with masks. The brush side is very soft and perfect for a thinner, more even application. Amazing tool and affordable, I think if you get one thing, let this be it.

Final Thoughts

We made it! That was a long one, I hope you stuck with me as I broke down all of these Revolution masks. As I have mentioned a few times throughout this first impressions, some of these masks I like and some I really didn’t have a good experience with. I didn’t expect all seven to be perfect for me and my skin type/concerns but I hope it was useful at least to see how I got on.

For dry skin like me, I would recommend the Hyaluronic Acid and Honey & Oatmeal. If you have oily skin you may enjoy the Pink Clay and Charcoal more. For combination and normal skin I would suggest the Warming Gel and Aloe Vera & Waterlily are best. Some of these masks didn’t agree with my sensitive skin but sensitivity can be different with everyone, so patch test if you can.
