Dermalogica Winter Skincare Saviours

My winter skincare routine

It’s that time of year when my skin is impossibly dry and being battered by harsh weather and central heating. Dermalogica has come to my rescue once again. I have rounded up my favourite winter skincare saviours to share with you all.

Dermalogica Winter Skincare Saviours

It’s been far too long since my last Dermalogica Post. I have been obsessed with this brand for the past two years, and have found so many incredible products that have changed my skin for the better.

Update your winter skincare routine

I have been at breaking point with my skin at times, especially in winter. It just seems to repeal moisture to an unbelievable level. When I say I needed to apply moisturiser every twenty minutes, I wish this was an exaggeration. What really changed my routine, my skin’s comfort, appearance, and my sanity was switching to products that worked to ‘fix’ the route of the problem and not just temporally mask my skin with short-lived hydration. Once my skin was happier, I found the harsh effects of winter to be so much more manageable. Dermalogica is one of my all-time favourite brands, saying these are my winter skincare saviours is not an under exaggeration.

For reference I have dry and sensitive skin.

Dermalogica Biolumin-C Eye Serum

Dermalogica Biolumin-C Eye Serum | £63

The newest Dermalogica launch, the Biolumin-C Eye Serum! This is a sister product to the Biolumin-C Serum (Link to Feelunique) that I reviewed in my original Dermalogica post. I was very excited for this launch, especially as now I’m in my late 20’s I have started to notice signs of ageing around my eyes. Add in the harsh effects of central heating and battering winter winds, and I needed something to brighten and revive my under eyes desperately.

The Biolumin-c serum has a very light texture, and I absolutely love the precise glass tip. I squeeze out a small amount and dab onto my under eyes as part of my night time routine. After just a fortnight I was already seeing results. I have naturally very dark under eyes, so I wasn’t expecting to see any differences. But the power of Vitamin C has definitely lightened and tightened my under eyes.

I love that it contains a few natural derived ingredients and is vegan, free from fragrance and colours, and cruelty free. Even with my sensitive skin, (which has resisted Vitamin C in the past) I have been getting on great with this amazing eye serum. Its become one of my favourite products in such a short amount of time.

Dermalogica Barrier Defence Booster

Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster | £58

The Skin Hydrating Booster (Link to Skinstore) is a nourishing and concentrated oil that helps hydrate the skin when a moisturiser alone is not enough. As this is from the Ultra Calming range (My favourite Dermalogica line) I knew it was going to be an instant favourite.

The booster has a soft pad on the bottom, that you press which dispenses the oil. I find about 4-5 drops to be right. These few drops sink straight into the skin and give it a boost before I go in with my moisturiser or night cream. I have used this both in the morning and evening and I actually don’t have a preference. It doesn’t leave the skin greasy (at least on my dry skin) which means it doesn’t interrupt makeup so it’s flexible in use. I tend to use it only once per day, and switch it up depending on how my skin is feeling.

Now I know you’re thinking, surely you can just use any oil under a moisturiser to boost hydration to the skin, and you absolutely can. The reason why I love this product so much, is because it soothes and relieves very dry and angry skin as well. Especially if you struggle with skin conditions, the Ultra-Calming range is a life saver and has done wonders to calm my irritated skin like nothing else. With the added benefits of deeply hydrating and keeping that moisture in my skin for longer too. I have fallen head over heels for this booster. It’s just what my skin needs in winter.

Dermalogica Winter Skincare Saviours

Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream | £37

This is one of my all-time favourite moisturisers. The Skin Smoothing Cream (Link to Ulta) really locks in hydration and despite its rich formula, it skins straight into the skin without feeling heavy.

The reason why I love this moisturiser so much, is it gives 48 hours of continuous hydration. Now I still apply this every day. However, usually with a moisturiser come the evening, my skin will feel dry and tight. Especially in winter. As this has such a long lasting effect, I don’t get that dry feeling anymore and it’s really helped keep my skin consistently hydrated. It also shields my skin against environmental stress, as winter can really put your skin through the wringer going from hot to cold.

How does it do this I hear you shout? Science of course, this amazing formula helps reduce trans-epidermal water loss. Which is where water is lost through the epidermal layer of the skin. This can cause a variety of unwanted skin conditions, most noticeably; pronounced fine lines and irritation. By solving the problem at the source, my skin has been so much happy and healthier looking. It really is a must buy and a product I know I will repurchase.

Dermalogica Nightly Lip Treament and Biolumin-C Eye Serum

Dermalogica Nightly Lip Treatment | £47.50

What suffers most in winter weather? My lips and hands. So the Nightly Lip Treatment was manna from heaven. This anti-aging lip treatment feels just like a cream, which feels even more divine through the cooling metal applicator. Honestly I just love the way this feels to apply. It’s really unlike any lip treatment I have ever tried and by morning my lips feel and look smoother and more filled in.

As this is a part of the Age Smart range, there is more emphasis on restoring the signs of ageing. Shea butter helps to create a barrier while sesame seed extract works to restore volume. I use this just before bed every night.

My lips are one of my biggest skin concerns as I suffer from not only extremely chapped lips but eczema around my mouth as well. I was so relieved to see this didn’t aggregate the sensitive skin around my mouth but has actually made a big difference to how my lips look and feel. It’s no longer a big concern going into winter. Although, I do still apply lip balm throughout the day this has really been the product that has made the difference.

Dermalogica Winter Skincare Saviours

Dermalogica Redness Relief Essence | £38

Dry skin can cause unwanted redness. The Redness Relief Essence (Link to Feelunique) has been a great toner step to my routine to help with this. It has a slightly syrupy texture that does leave my skin a little tacky afterwards but as soon as I continue with my routine this feeling goes.

I have noticed that those with medically diagnosed rosacea have raised concerns online about this product. I can’t speak for that as I don’t suffer from rosacea but I would say if you do, perhaps proceed with caution. If however like me, you have redness caused by dry or irritated skin I think this product can be a real benefit.

I noticed my skin getting less red after about three weeks which gave me a more even skin tone and allowed for me to wear less heavy foundations during the day.

Dermalogica Sleep Sound Cocoon

Dermalogica Sleep Sound Cocoon | £72.50

The Sleep Sound Cocoon (Link to Lookfantastic) is a restorative night gel-cream. The innovative packaging twists to unlock and distributes the perfect pump of product to cover the skin.  This contains French lavender essential oil which gives it a calming scent that helps aid rest.

Not necessarily a winter skincare product but one I have been using since autumn and I have found it still to work well for me as we have moved into winter as well.  I love how this feels on my skin, the texture is lovely and my skin just drinks it up. My skin feels so comfortable when I use this and I adore that the ingredients are focused on night time repairing and recovery. A really easy to use product that works hard for you while you sleep. The Sleep Sound Cocoon is a product I can see being great for a variety of skin types too.

Dermalogica Winter Skincare Saviours

Winter skincare wrapped up

It’s safe to say my love for Dermalogica just grows and grows. I have found a routine that really works for me and has made not only my skin less stressed and dry but allowed me to worry less too. Adapting to a winter skincare routine doesn’t need to be a massive overhaul. Swapping a few products out that are more focused on locking in hydration and preventing dryness can make all the difference. We all want effortless and clear skin and what I love about Dermalogica is that they really understand my skins needs and match those expectations.

  • Sophie February 16, 2020 at 11:34 pm

I STILL haven’t tried anything from Dermalogica and I really don’t know why. I think we have very similar skin types by the sound of it and fully relate to the struggle this time of year brings. My most hydrating concealer cracked the skin under my eyes this week (I looked so cute as I’m sure you can imagine). Thankfully I don’t get a lot of redness unless I’ve had a sensitivity reaction to something (which does still happen fairly frequently) but the smoothing cream and hydrating booster both sound incredible x
