Tarte Tartelette Toasted Eyeshadow Palette

Review of the Toasted Eyeshadow Palette

The Tarte Tartelette Toasted palette came out at the tail end of last year and captured my attention right away. As a self-proclaimed warm toned eyeshadow lover, I knew I wanted this palette for myself. After kindly receiving this palette as a Christmas present and have been putting it to the test ever since.

After putting this palette to the test for a while now, I wanted to share with you a full run-down review and if I think its worth the spend.

Packaging

The Tarte Tartlette Toasted palette has a great sized mirror and is overall a really sleek compact. The flame/burnt design is so attractive paired with the gold. The quality in general of this packaging I just can’t fault. The palette is nicely weighted and although it is plastic, it feels sturdy. As it is so sleek, it’s really easily to store and potentially travel with. I don’t own the other two Tartlette palettes, but I believe Toasted follows the same packaging style.  It’s one of my favourite packaging styles in my eyeshadow collection. Resistant to fingerprints, thin and robust. I could go on! It feels luxurious and ticks all the boxes for me.

Wear Time

As I mentioned in my Pixi palette review, I have been using the same eye-primer routine when using this palette. Benefit’s Lemon aid followed by Urban Decay’s Primer Potion set with a powder matching my skintone. Using this routine I find that the shadows wear for around 6-7 hours before fading. I do notice that the shimmers are the first to go with the matte shades hanging in a little while longer before wearing away. I find this comparable to most of my other high-end palettes, so I’m pleased with the wear time.

Consistency

These are very soft shadows and as a result have quite a bit of kick-up when you did your brush into them. Because of this it’s really easy to build up a lot of colour on your eye quickly. Most notably, I haven’t experienced much fall-out. However, I fear, one knock would smash these shades to bits. The mattes aren’t the creamiest if formula’s, but they are long wearing, pigmented and blend effortlessly. The metallic’s have a smoother consistency and can be really knocked up a gear, by using a wet brush to give an even more foiled effect.

Candle is the weakest shade for me, it’s very crumbly and has a lot of fall-out. It’s a beautiful shade but dipping your brush is creates a snow storm of powder. I still love it as an inner corner highlight shade but you have to be careful when using it as to not make a mess.

Pigmentation

Sunset and flame are richly pigmented and go onto the eye as opaque as they look in the pan. They have the best pigmentation in the palette and really are beautifully rich shades. The shimmers in general all have a really creamy consistency that packs straight onto the lid with ease.

Crackle is an interesting shade, although it does have flecks of glitter, it behaves more like a matte and the sparkle doesn’t look as intense on the eye as it appears in the pan. Sunrise is more of a soft sheen then a full on shimmer, so makes for a really beautiful light reflecting but more natural looking shade because of this.

Shade Range

There are three mid-toned shimmer shades in this palette, (Sunset, Flame & Simmer) and while they are all really beautiful, it would have been nice to see a bit more shade variety in the shimmers. The palette contains 3 light shades with different finishes, that can be used to highlight. As I love to wear matte’s on my brow bone and shimmer’s on my inner corner; S’more, Sunrise and Candle all fit the bill. This palette really offers a range of options, and can be easily transitioned from day to night looks. I have been starting most of my looks with Cashmere as a transition shade followed by Latte in my crease. This has been the most perfect duo to begin my looks, as it gives that perfect neutral base to compliment the rest of the shades in the palette

Crackle, Cozy and Fireside all make beautiful deep outer-v or soft liner shades to add some definition and Warmth, Flame, Sunet and Simmer all look beautiful on the lid. There isn’t a shade in this palette that I don’t love and use and that really is a rare thing to say. Although I find the consistency of the shades vary, the tones and finishes are such a fantastic mix that really makes me excited every time I reach for this palette.

Layout

The way the shades are positioned within the palette, is great if you are in need of some inspiration. At first it looks quite random, but I have been enjoying using the rows as guides. To create some looks I wouldn’t have tried otherwise. If you want to keep it super warm, you can focus on the middle row across to create a orange toned look. A true warm toned lovers dream. Or if you are after a more neutral feel, the top and bottom row across offers more neutral and cool toned shades.

Toasted vs Heat

The Tarte Toasted palette definitely has some similarities to the Urban Decay Heat palette. I don’t own the Heat palette, so I can’t compare them in terms of quality. However, I do own two other naked palettes and rate them very highly in my collection. The deciding factor for me was I wanted to try a palette from Tarte, as I was less familiar with their products. Even though the Heat palette makes me drool when I look at swatches, I felt the Toasted had a more wearable range of shades for my taste. That being said I’m not ruling out getting the Heat palette in the future. Both palette have 12 shadows and the price point is very similar. As is the amount of eye shadows in each pan, so there isn’t much between them. It really comes down to personal preference.

My palette was purchased from the Tarte website and the price includes customs & VAT. Tarte is normally available on QVC UK as well if you are looking to get your hands on it.

Tarte Tartelette Toasted Eyeshadow Palette

This really is a beautiful palette, the shadows are high quality and certainly don’t disappoint. I think the shade range is fantastic and really thought out. It offers great variety and flexibility but still comfortably sits in that warm toned family. Despite it being so warm toned, it’s really wearable and surprising versatile. Its a palette I have been reaching for non-stop and such a beautiful addition to my collection.

I’m wearing Cashmere and Latte today…yay! I love this palette but need a new primer to get the metallics to stay put on my eyelids. Its a shame that Tarte made sure to lose respect because this is a great palette xxxx

What a lovely review! I’ve been playing with this palette not that long ago and although it does have some serious kick-up if you dip your brush too hard, the pigmentation + longevity are great. I also like the fact that this is a product that works for people with sensitive eyes; one of the reasons why I love the brand’s mascaras too – I just know that they will never cause any problems. As for the Shape Tape foundation, I actually bought it when it just launched; at the time I didn’t pay attention to an entire shade range, but when people started talking about it – it was fairly disappointing. Although I don’t think I will review it, the product is excellent and I really hope they expand the range ASAP. Great cautionary tale for other brands too.

Thank you so much for reading Naya! I actually didn’t know Tarte was formulated for sensitive skin, I have sensitive skin and often suffer, I should have realised they were aggravating my eyes. I agree its disappointing, it’s a shame because I was excited about the launch. I hope they add more shades and bring out a full line in future. xx
