The New Stay Satin Liquid Lipstick

A few weeks ago, I received an exciting box from Influenster. Containing 8 shades from the Rimmel Stay Satin Liquid Lipstick line. I have been testing these for the past few weeks, so I could share my full review with you all.

Influenster

Last year I received two Influenster voxboxes, both from Bourjois. One contain their metallic lip creams and one containing twelve shades from their rouge velvet the lipstick line. When my third voxbox arrived at the end of last month, I opened it to discover it was a selection of liquid lipsticks! I couldn’t help but to chuckle to myself. Influenster is certainly keeping me stocked up on lip products and it’s a good thing too, as who can resist a new lip colour? Rimmel Lips

Rimmel is a very tired and trusted brand for me. As a rule of thumb, I have always loved their lip products. They just seem to get it right for; price, colour range, formula and longevity. I went in with high expectations, as I know how good their products can be. When I first swatched these on the back of my hand, I had a good feeling I was going to like these.

Stay Satin Vs Stay Matte

When the Rimmel Stay Satin line launched, I was excited to see Rimmel expanding the finishes of their liquid lipstick offerings. The Stay Matte liquid lipsticks have been out for a while now and have a similar packaging style. The difference being, the Stay Matte formula has a frosted tube and the Stay Satin doesn’t. This makes it easy to tell them apart, if you already have some of the Stay Matte’s in your collection. The differences also translates to the finish on your lips, The Stay Satin’s aren’t as long-wearing but feel more comfortable on the lips. Its a trade-off for what you are looking for, from your lip colour. If you love a matte liquid lipstick but aren’t a fan of how dry they can feel, this may be the perfect alternative.

Shade Range

There are fourteen shades total within the collection, of which I have eight to share. I think Rimmel really did a fantastic job with the shade range. There are your classic nudes and statement reds but also a fun purple, daring grey and even a neon coral. I think there is something for everyone here. The other six shades in the collection, fit very much into the pink/mauve category, so if you are thinking, that’s what’s missing, fear not!

I’m not the most adventurous, when it comes to lip colours but I surprised even myself, by how much I loved the shade For Sure, an aubergine (eggplant) purple that is so wearable and flattering on the lips.

If I had to pick a favourite shade, you know it’s going to be Shoulder Pads. This gorgeous light rosy nude is exactly my kind of colour. It reminds me of a lighter Velvet Teddy by Mac, the rosy undertone brings some warmth to my complexion and doesn’t leave me looking washed out. It’s such a stunning everyday shade.

Pigmentation

Overall I find the pigmentation to be impressive and consistent across the line. The shade Glam Rock (grey) is a bit streakier then the other shades but it does build-up nicely to an even coat. The Stay Satin isn’t a sheer formula and it covers the lips well. As these have a slightly moussey texture, they don’t bleed outside the lip line but it also helps to give a more opaque finish.

Formula

I really enjoy the formula of the Stay Satin. They have the standard Rimmel, sweet fruity scent that is quite strong but doesn’t linger. The texture is not too thin, not too thick, giving my lips an even coat and quick application. One thing I would say to be wary of, is that these don’t mask lip lines. I have been using a lip scrub to help make my lips look tip-top before applying and I find this really helps with application, longevity and the final look. The formula isn’t hydrating but it’s not drying either. It’s more comfortable on the lips then a matt formula but not by much, so I like to apply a thin layer of lip balm underneath. As they are a satin formula and not a matte, they don’t dry down fully. I did notice it dry down a little, after about 30 seconds and overall, I find them to feel lightweight and comfortable on the lips.

Application

The applicator is really precise and makes it so easy to get an even line, without a lip liner. There is a small well in the middle of the doe foot, that holds just enough product for one application. The packaging and applicator are perfect and make applying so much easier, especially with the darker shades where precision is really needed.

Wear-time

These claim to wear for up to 8 hours. I would say that’s a bit of stretch but the wear-time is good and better than a standard lipstick, as liquid lipsticks usually are. These are not transfer proof, so that can affect the overall wear-time but I find them easy enough to touch up if needed. The darker shades definitely need a bit more maintenance, as it is more noticeable when they need touching up. You will likely need a touch up after eating and drinking too.

Final Thoughts

The Rimmel Stay Satin Liquid Lipsticks retail for £5.99 each and can be purchased at your local drugstore or online at Amazon. If you are in the market for a liquid lip colour, I don’t think you will be disappointed at all. The shade range is a great mix of wearable and adventurous, so there’s a shade for everyone. If you are feeling daring to try new colours but don’t want to splurge, these are a great option. The formula, pigmentation and wear-time is great and overall I think these are a good value enjoyable lip product. I can see myself continuing to reach for a few of these shades as I find them flattering and easy to apply.
